Laundromat Opens in Burren Junction

Laundromat Opens in Burren Junction

Burren Junction will have its own laundromat, thanks to an idea while holidaying up north.  Bill Schwager decided that a laundromat was needed in Burren to service trucks and farmers during harvest time and the Burren Bore during the winter months.  Also, to service all in the local area, from Wee Waa to Walget, Rowena, and Pilliga, as well.  Services include self-service washers for $6 and dryers for $6.  All new 10-kilo machines, 2 washers and 2 dryers. Also available is a drop-off and pick-up service for bags of washing, which will be washed, dried and folded for those who do not have the time to do it themselves. Burren Laundromat will be open 7 days, 8 am to 5 pm. Feel free to contact Bill on 0429967243 for further information.

Fuel Subsidies for Community Services

Fuel Subsidies for Community Services

5 May, 2026

Member for Barwon, Roy Butler, has warned that the ongoing fuel crisis could severely compromise access to essential health and community services in rural and remote communities unless a temporary fuel subsidy is introduced.

Mr Butler’s office has been contacted by numerous organisations that provide transport for rural and remote patients to attend health and specialist appointments, as well as organisations delivering health services directly into people’s homes.

“These services are a lifeline for people who have no other means of transport,” Mr Butler said. “Any disruption caused by increased fuel prices would have serious consequences for health and wellbeing outcomes in our communities.”

Fuel Crisis Prompts Tourism Concerns

Fuel Crisis Prompts Tourism Concerns

5 May 2026

Rising concern about the impact of the fuel crisis on local tourism has prompted the Member for Barwon, Roy Butler, to urge city residents to continue with their plans to visit regional NSW over the Easter holiday.

Local tourism operators are reporting a bump in Easter cancellations against a backdrop of lower overall bookings in March this year compared to the same time last year.

“It’s a tough time for many people who work in tourism,” said Mr Butler.

“Caravan parks in Broken Hill are reporting a drop in revenue of more than 25%, with management and staff discussing reduced hours.

“Fewer shifts are available for motel workers around Narrabri too.

Arts National – A Photographic Odyssey – Shackleton’s Endurance Expedition

Presented by Mark Cottle. On Ernest Shackleton’s third Antarctic expedition in 1914, his ship the Endurance was trapped, eventually crushed in pack ice. Shackleton sailed with five companions over 800 miles to South Georgia, returning over three months later to rescue his stranded crew. Australian Frank Hurley was the expedition’s official photographer.

His images capture with great artistry the amazing landscapes within which this remarkable human drama unfolded. This talk illustrates Hurley’s great talent behind the lens, in the first flush of human contact when the Antarctic remained essentially ‘terra incognita’.

Born on the Isles of Scilly and educated at Truro School, Cornwall, and Birmingham University, Mark Cottle has enjoyed a career in education and training at home and abroad, lecturing at colleges and universities on medieval, Tudor, and Anglo Saxon England.
